Bio
Kristin Taylor truly loves working with teenagers and looks forward to going to work. she has been sharing her love of writing and literature with high school students for three decades. She received her BA in English from the University of Connecticut, an MAT in secondary education from Sacred Heart University, and an MA in journalism from Kent State University. She has worked as an English teacher, tutor, and writing coach and became a Nationally Board Certified Teacher in English/Language Arts in 2001. Kristin shifted her focus from English to journalism in the 2010s and now is the Head of Scholastic Journalism at The Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles, where she advises an award-winning high school digital newspaper, a print yearbook, and an eighth grade print newsmagazine. A JEA-certified Master Journalism Educator, Kristin was an ASNE Reynolds Fellow in 2014 and was named a CSPA Distinguished Adviser in 2020. She was elected to JEA's board of directors in 2020, where she served as the SPRC director until 2024. She is excited to continue to contribute to the committee's crucial efforts to empower student voices and support scholastic press freedom.
Kristin's work with adults has included being the New Faculty Coordinator and English Department Chair at her current school, running professional development workshops, presenting at conferences, and working as a mentor for new teachers and journalism advisers. She has also worked as a writing coach, tutor, and editor.
Kristin is a New England native who drove across the country with her mother and two cats in 2005 to begin a new life in California. She currently lives and teaches in Los Angeles with her beloved husband and furry family. Little but Fierce explores the joys and dilemmas of being a teacher and journalism adviser.
